—What details that usually pass unnoticed can a wedding photographer capture?

—Experience is great, so we can pre-empt a shot, especially during the speeches. I've heard certain punchlines time and time again, so I can be ready at the exact moment that the penny drops.

—Are there tendencies in wedding photography?

—Everything has a 30 year cycle, look at fashion, loud clothes with funky patterns and colours are back in fashion now like my mum used to wear in the 60s, and it's very similar to photography. Black and white is always fashionable, but thankfully, the 'colour-pop' went as quickly as it appeared!

—How do you deal with criticism?

—Yes, I am a big believer in Creative and Personal development and part of that is entering awards, where the images are judged live and the judge/s make comments about the images and how to improve them if needed. The danger is becoming too close to your work and taking offence, but the secret is take everything in, implement the comments and prove them wrong next time!

—What is there in your work that brings you joy?

—I love that the images I take at weddings will be looked on for generations to come. We are the most photographed generation ever but with nothing to show for it apart from images on a cloud somewhere, but in one of my album, the images are there to see forever.

—What are the key elements that make a photo attractive?

—For me, connection with the couple make the best photograph. If you can get the person in front of the camera to relax, and capture their natural side, they'll prefer that image much more than a staged one.

—Do you like travelling?

—I do, very much so. I was luck enough to travel all over the world working on cruise ships, but since I set up The Edge, I have taken wedding bookings in Italy, Portugal, Ireland, Scotland and the USA.

—Is there anything in your work that you don't like or even hate?

—Ipads! Wedding guests innocently leaning out into the aisle and getting in the way and potentially ruining a great image. Leave it to the professionals :)

—What is absolutely unacceptable when taking photos?

—You must be professional at all times, so I avoid drinking on the job, but have been know to have a sweetie off the sweat table from time to time ;)

—How did you start working in the wedding photography field?

—I started working on cruise ships, and once I completed my contract, I was head-hunted by a local wedding photographer to assist him on shoots, and before I knew it, he was booking me out by myself. 18 months later, I had left him, and set my own company up. Best decision I ever made.

—Do you look good in pictures?

—I don't think so, but have been told by my Mentor "you certainly know how to pose, don't you!"

—What makes wedding photography different from other photography genres?

—We are charged with capturing a time someones life where they have never looked better or been happier, and this is the best feeling in the world to know that images I take are looked back on years after and the same phrase is muttered, "it was so worth it".

—Can you imagine what wedding photography will be like in future?

—I think albums will always play a special part in a wedding, but I do wonder how technology will play a part in weddings in 30 years. Cameras will change, but I think the album will be a constant.

—What should future newlyweds pay attention to when looking for a wedding photographer?

—I think if the couple like a portfolio, then they should make an appointment to go and see them, then, for me, if you like their personality as much, then its a no brainer.
