Rainy Iceland Elopement day at the charming Búðir Black Church

Things don’t always go according to plan. When planning an elopement in Iceland, you have to be prepared for anything. One of the factors you should consider when having an adventurous wedding is the weather. Georgia and Willem, for example, got married in the stunning Snæfellsnes Peninsula on a rainy day. They decided to brave the weather and explore the area after their intimate ceremony at the unique Búðir Black Church. With a continuous driving in the pouring rain, we could have been discouraged but Georgia and Willem braved the cold and wind.
We were completely soaked and cold but their elopement turned into a truly unique and memorable day.Búðir sits within the Búðahraun lava field, an expansive environment of torn-up earth that has grown over with grassy flora. Búðahraun is acclaimed for its rich flora, boasting approximately 130 different plant species. These include rare and protected species. The eastern part of the lava field has been an official nature reserve since 1977. The first Búðakirkja was built on the spot in 1703, but was eventually deconstructed due to the area lack of parishioners. The current church was reconstructed in 1987 after a single member of the church lobbied to have the chapel brought back. It has a historic graveyard as well as relics such as a bell and chalice from the time the church was first erected. However its pure black paint job and isolated location are the real attraction to the site. Perspective:
