Clare college, Cambridge | Riana + Rob

When I first met American bride Riana and English groom Rob, we bonded over our long time shared love of Cambridge. I thought to myself a Clare College wedding seemed like destiny for them: they attended Clare College together, Rob proposed to Riana on lovely Clare Bridge and their lives and romance have been shared amid the university's unique beauty and inspiring privilege. I'm excited to share some of my favourite photos from their special day.Their wedding was held September 16; the expected warm golden light of late summer was hidden behind close skies and some brief showers, which added an intriguing element of drama and elegance to the proceedings. I began my day backstage, so to speak, with the bride and her party preparing. Abundant laughs and joy in the room! The groom and his men assembled in the cellars beneath the chapel, also a spirited occasion. The ceremony was held in the College Chapel, by tradition available for weddings only to present Clare College members and alumni. Incredibly sophisticated, ornate and inspiring surroundings! It's always so beautiful to capture emotions and faces during the ceremony.Skies cleared in time for photos in the riverside Scholars' Garden: the silvery sky contrasted amazingly with the lush emerald foliage and damp cobblestones, for a magical and memorable day.The reception was held in Clare College's magnificent 17th century Great Hall, recalling elegant occasions of past eras. Now past the formalities, people were ready to raise glasses and toast the new couple!Celebrants enjoyed a late evening of entertainment beneath the College Chapel, within the cosy and romantic confines of the Bar and Cellars. This exquisite space originates from the 17th century and remains stylishly authentic to the period: exposed brick, sensuous stone arches and subdued lighting create a gorgeous intimacy that's well suited to the celebration of new love. This was my latest of several invitations to photograph a Clare College wedding and the experience was spectacular and moving. Riana, Rob and their family & friends created a wonderful atmosphere filled with love and joy, intimate moments and shared celebration. It was a privilege to be part of their nuptials – thank you Riana & Rob!
