We met Kaitlyn and Josh last year for a beautiful fall Emerald Lake Lodge engagement session. The session was so much fun and we had their wedding date circled on our calendar ever since. Especially, when we heard it was at The Gathered, which we had not had the privilege to shoot at yet. It definitely did not disappoint!The Gathered, located in Kathryn, Alberta – just north of Calgary, was beyond perfect for Kaitlyn and Josh’s garden party themed wedding complete with lawn games, axe throwing and the most darling little Prosecco Cart you have ever seen. The weather forecast had called for rain and storms all week but the weather gods smiled down on us and gave us beautiful sunshine, one stunning thunderstorm – perfectly timed when everyone was eating dinner in the tent, and then a unforgettable sunset. The ceremony location looked over the rolling fields of the Alberta Prairies, and the simple wooden arch with floral accents, sheer white curtains and a chandelier was so romantic. Another adorable detail was the framed baby photos hanging at the ends of the aisles as they made their way to the front for the ceremony in front of all their friends and family. The touching ceremony was full of emotion which was naturally showcased by the lovely personalized vows that each of them had wrote for each other. There was laughter, tears, smiles and of course mention of their sweet little dog Aspen.My favourite part of the day was to sneak off during the reception after the rain had stopped to get some stunning bridal portraits with the beautiful Mammatus clouds. It’s always nice for the couple to escape the reception for a few quiet moments together and we love capturing this!The Gathered presented a delicious farm-to-table meal for dinner, which I know had Jared sneaking back for seconds. The midnight snack was scrumptious fresh homemade donuts with a smattering of toppings to choose from. The speeches were hilarious and were highlighted by a guest appearance of a cardboard cut-out of the groom which of course ended up making its way to the dance floor later in the evening. It was so sweet that Kaitlyn had two father-daughter dances, one for dad and one for her step-dad. Tyler, from Local DJ, played some awesome tracks and kept the dance floor jammed all night, aside from the rush outside for the donuts of course!
