Interview

  • How did you get in the photography industry?

It was in 2012. Daniel had been doing photography for 5 years as a hobby, and we were working at a hotel on Lake Atitlan, Guatemala. Our boss had bought a second-hand wedding dress for Halloween, and she left it at the hotel. Melissa put on the dress, and Daniel took some photos. We published it on our website & after only 1 month our first couple asked us to shoot their wedding!

  • What are the most important components of a good photo in your opinion?

    Light, moment and composition.

  • Do you love traveling?

Always. We have traveled a lot and are always eager to revisit our favorite spots and discover new ones.

  • What do you like most about your profession?

That we get to hang out with our couples in the most important and happy day in their lives. And we also help them remember those moments for generations to come.

  • What do you like least about your profession?

Some of the repetitive tasks like the selection of photos and editing. Nonetheless, we put very close attention to them, because we want our final product to be flawless.

  • What will be the future of photography?

Robots! Just kidding. We believe in creating timeless images. It can be hard to strike a balance between staying updated and not letting your style go with the trend of the day. These are things we always consider and work on.

  • What is special in the photography genre you specialise at?

Moments, moments and moments. Having your family and close friends all in one place hanging out is a one in a lifetime and unforgettable experience.

  • How do you handle criticism?

It is not easy to take, but we always welcome it as an integral part of growing as better artists and humans.

  • Are there any trends in photography?

Yes, these days we feel is all about showing cool locations and giving images a vintage look. We love these things, but we also try to have a wholesome approach, complementing those trends with other styles of photography.

  • What should be the criteria for a customer to choose a photographer?

We believe couples should check the final product a photographer delivers, like full galleries of weddings, slideshows, albums, etc. and choose the photographer that most resonates with what they are looking for.

  • What things are to be avoided when shooting?

Forgetting family and friend relations and interactions, and only focusing on the couple.

  • What details that usually pass unnoticed can a photographer notice?

Since we shoot many weddings a year we can identify trends and visualize the importance of certain moments. Our goal is to maximize the time we are there for our couples, taking photos when they need to be taken and observing and anticipating moments to be ready to capture them.

  • What influences the value of a photo? What are its elements?

As we said before, moment, light and composition are the key elements in a photo in our opinion.

  • What person can be the symbol of the 21st century in your opinion?

Malala Yousefzai. Her life is an inspiration and her work promoting girls and women's education is key for the advancement of our humanity and compassion.

  • Who do you want to take photos of?

Malala Yousefzai :) Besides weddings we would like to take photos of those people whose voices are normally unheard, and help give them more exposure.

  • Do you have any professional taboos?

Photographic permission is really important for us if we feel the person in the photo might not want to be part of it, specially if their faces are a key element in the photo.

  • Who would you like to shoot with?

Fer Juaristi, Jonas Peterson or Nirav Patel as wedding photographers. Henry Cartier-Bresson if he was alive and Michael Kenna and Marc Adamus as landscape photographers.

  • What do you worry about, and why?

Inequality in the world and the suffering it creates.

  • What is the most impressive moment in your life?

Getting married to each other on Lake Atitlan in 2017 :)
