Interview

  • First and foremost – whom can you name as the best photographer in Bucharest, Romania? :)

When it comes to any artistic approach, I don't consider there is a best person who does that as there are many styles to choose from. There are a few whom I appreciate, none is best, but all are good.

  • Are you photogenic?

Only when I don't know I'm being photographed.

  • How did you get in the photography industry?

My passion for portraits has started in high school. At one point it was just the natural course of action.

  • What are the most important components of a good photo in your opinion?

I believe it is more important the message relayed by the photographer and the way it reaches the audience, rather than how a photo looks.

  • Do you love traveling?

Does whiskey taste better as it ages?

  • What do you like most about your profession?

The moment when people I work with look at their portrait I just took and go: "WHOW!"

  • What do you like least about your profession?

I believe every artist is the most critical person towards themselves. So yes, there are plenty. But if there weren't, we wouldn't evolve and get better.

  • What is special in the photography genre you specialise at?

    The emotions are real.

  • How do you handle criticism?

Depends on who is it coming from and if they have a valid argument or not.

  • Are there any trends in photography?

Of course, from shooting style to editing. All are good as the client is happy with the results.

  • What should be the criteria for a customer to choose a photographer?

I believe it is very important to have a balance between shooting and editing style, and similar lifestyle values and principles.

  • What details that usually pass unnoticed can a photographer notice?

While most photographers are paying attention to the bride and groom, I also take peaks at the guests to catch a proud smile of the parents, grandma's tears of joy and pure cheekiness of the children attending.

  • What influences the value of a photo? What are its elements?

The way it makes the viewer feel.

  • What person can be the symbol of the 21st century in your opinion?

    Not the Kardashians.

  • Who would you like to shoot with?

    Joe Buissink and Jerry Ghionis.

  • What is the most impressive moment in your life?

I can't say it is a moment, more like a long term experience when I went to study abroad, in France.

  • Who inspires you in your life and why?

I always try today to be a little better than yesterday. For me that is enough.

  • How do you define success? How do you measure it?

I don't think there is a quantifiable method for success. Once we get to whatever moment we believed we could consider ourselves successful, it will change into something else. As long as we strive to be better in life, I believe it is a successful strategy.

  • Would you rather be liked or respected?

I think most of us prefer to be accepted as we are, quirks and all without fearing others opinion of ourselves if we do x or y.

  • How do you educate yourself to take better pictures?

    Practice. Practice. Practice.

  • Whose work has influenced you most as a photographer?

Daniel Chindea, Joe Buissink, Pie Jyrsa, Jerry Ghionis.

  • What is the one thing you wish you knew when you started taking photos?

    Practice before anything else.

  • What do you want to say with your photographs?

People look beautiful when they let go and just be themselves.

  • What motivates you to continue taking pictures?

It's always something new. New people, new relationships, new ways to express emotions.

  • If you could go back in time, what would you do differently?

    Buy Bitcoin. :))

  • What about life on other planets?

Most likely. Not necessarily green little men, but microorganisms, definitely.

  • Who do you have no respect for?

Most politicians and big corporations who put their bottom line above a better future for all.

  • What do you do in your spare time?

I enjoy going to the movies, watching Netflix and traveling.

  • Do you believe in the traditional roles for men and women?

I believe some men are naturally better at some stuff and some women are naturally better at other stuff. Doesn't mean one can't do what the other can.

  • Do you make friends easily?

    Sure..

  • Where would you like to live?

    Santa Barbara.

  • What's the stupidest thing you've ever agreed to do?

Perform striptease in front some of my friends.. not all the way though. Haha..

  • Is there life after marriage?

It's just another chapter of the same book.

  • Do you like dogs or cats?

    Cats.

  • The most annoying thing in life is:

Childhood emotional scars we are not even aware of.

  • Can you give a few tips for photographers who are just starting out?

    Don't sell yourself short.

  • If you are called to shoot a movie, what genre will it be?

I'm a romantic, so probably something Woody Allen-ish.
