Interview
-
—How did you get in the photography industry?
—I've always enjoyed photography as a hobby. When my cousin got engaged, she asked me to shoot her wedding. I had a lot of fun and was happy with the outcome so the rest is history.
-
—What are the most important components of a good photo in your opinion?
—This is very subjective, but for me it's all about the story. A great moment composed in a compelling way will always grab my eye. Bonus points if multiple stories are woven together.
-
—What should be the criteria for a customer to choose a photographer?
—A shared vision. When you view their work you should say to yourself "I want my story captured like this". Find someone who you can trust to tell your story in a way that resonates with you.
-
—How do you define success? How do you measure it?
—If I'm closer to achieving my objectives than yesterday, all good.
-
—How do you educate yourself to take better pictures?
—While I value inspiration from other photographers, nothing beats getting out and shooting. I'm very critical of my own work and constantly trying to best myself.
-
—Whose work has influenced you most as a photographer?
—Gabe McClintock. He captured my wedding (before he became ridiculously famous) and it completely changed the way I viewed photography.
-
—What about life on other planets?
—Highly probable.
-
—What do you do in your spare time?
—Spend time with my family, enjoy the Albertan wilderness and write music.
-
—Do you like dogs or cats?
—All of the above. I have a dog and two cats.
