Interview

  • How did you get in the photography industry?

I've always enjoyed photography as a hobby. When my cousin got engaged, she asked me to shoot her wedding. I had a lot of fun and was happy with the outcome so the rest is history.

  • What are the most important components of a good photo in your opinion?

This is very subjective, but for me it's all about the story. A great moment composed in a compelling way will always grab my eye. Bonus points if multiple stories are woven together.

  • What should be the criteria for a customer to choose a photographer?

A shared vision. When you view their work you should say to yourself "I want my story captured like this". Find someone who you can trust to tell your story in a way that resonates with you.

  • How do you define success? How do you measure it?

If I'm closer to achieving my objectives than yesterday, all good.

  • How do you educate yourself to take better pictures?

While I value inspiration from other photographers, nothing beats getting out and shooting. I'm very critical of my own work and constantly trying to best myself.

  • Whose work has influenced you most as a photographer?

Gabe McClintock. He captured my wedding (before he became ridiculously famous) and it completely changed the way I viewed photography.

  • What about life on other planets?

    Highly probable.

  • What do you do in your spare time?

Spend time with my family, enjoy the Albertan wilderness and write music.

  • Do you like dogs or cats?

All of the above. I have a dog and two cats.
