Interview
-
—Are you photogenic?
—I don't think I'm photogenic, I always seem to look a little like a hamster in pictures.
-
—How did you get in the photography industry?
—I got into wedding photography not long after university (where I studied philosophy and media, learning many practical media skills including camera work). A friend asked me to shoot their wedding, and they really liked the pictures. Not long after another friend asked me to do their photos. Then a friend of a friend, and so on. My reputation and my business just grew and grew.
-
—What are the most important components of a good photo in your opinion?
—The most important components of a good photo are lighting and subject. With wedding photography this means ensuring that everyone is happy on the day.
-
—Do you love traveling?
—I adore travelling. In 2007-8 I took a year out to travel Asia. It was amazing.
-
—What do you like most about your profession?
—I love all the people I meet in my profession. I also enjoy the fact that no two days are the same. Everyone's wedding is unique to them and I enjoy being able to capture people's special moments.
-
—What do you like least about your profession?
—Sometimes the hours can be unsociable. I work most evenings and weekends and that gives me very little time to spend with the people that I love.
-
—What will be the future of photography?
—I don't know what the future holds for wedding photography, I quite enjoy the ride not knowing.
-
—What is special in the photography genre you specialise at?
—I love the moment when I deliver the album to my couples. Watching them re-live the day is always a special moment.
-
—How do you handle criticism?
—As long as criticism is constructive then bring it on. I'd hate to stagnate!
-
—Are there any trends in photography?
—There's always trends in wedding photography, mostly in the way images are processed. I try and keep my images very clean and natural, else in black and white. That way the images shouldn't date.
-
—What should be the criteria for a customer to choose a photographer?
—Do you like the photographers work?
Will you enjoy your photographers company throughout your wedding day?
