Surprise Proposal in Amsterdam
The best proposals I've photographed in Amsterdam have one thing in common — they happen before the city wakes up.
There's a window, roughly between 6 and 8am, where Amsterdam looks like it belongs to nobody. The canals are still. The bridges are empty. The light does that thing where it makes everything feel slightly unreal. That's the window.I've hidden behind bicycles. I've pretended to photograph architecture. I've stood very still in places I had absolutely no reason to be — all to make sure the moment happened without anyone seeing me coming.Because a surprise proposal only works if she genuinely doesn't know. And my job is to make sure she doesn't.What I love about early morning proposals in Amsterdam is that you get the city as a backdrop without the city getting in the way. No tour groups. No other photographers. Just two people, a question, and whatever happens next — which is always the part you can never predict and never want to miss.If you're planning to propose in Amsterdam and you want someone who knows where to stand, when to disappear, and how to be invisible until the exact moment that matters — that's exactly what I do.
