Cherokee Wedding in Evergreen

Going to as many weddings as we do, we get to see a lot of really cool ways that couples make their weddings unique. Jenn and Erik’s Evergreen Lake House wedding was no different. In fact, it held a lot of firsts for us.It was the first time we had a bride wear a buckskin dress. Jenn has Cherokee heritage on her mother’s side of the family and she wanted to honor that throughout the wedding. In fact, one of her close friends presided over a traditional Cherokee ceremony, including incorporating the guests with a feather intention ceremony.Instead of four-inch heels for the ladies and dress shoes for the guys, the wedding party was immensely warm and comfortable in their moccasins. These looked so cozy, I’m thinking I might order myself a pair for next winter. But, let’s talk about the hawk in the room. Er, I mean the hawk outside with the rings. How cool is it to have a hawk deliver the rings in the middle of the ceremony?! I thought I had seen it all when we had a pig ring bearer, but our couples continue to amaze me. A lot of people wondered if he might fly off with the rings or drop them or eat them or any other potential catastrophe. But I can assure you, he was the ultimate professional who takes his job very seriously and delivers on his promise to strike awe into wedding guests.
