The Xhubleta is a unique traditional women’s garment from Northern Albania, especially associated with the regions of Malësia e Madhe, Dukagjin, and surrounding areas. It is easily recognized by its bell-shaped form and its rich decorations featuring geometric and mythological symbols, all handmade.Its origins are believed to date back to the Illyrian period, making it one of the oldest traditional garments still preserved in Europe. The Xhubleta was mainly worn during festive occasions and important ceremonies, reflecting cultural identity and regional belonging.In 2022, the Xhubleta was inscribed on UNESCO’s List of Intangible Cultural Heritage in Need of Urgent Safeguarding, recognizing its exceptional cultural value and the risk of disappearance. This inscription aims to protect and pass on this rare tradition to future generations.
