  • Are you photogenic?

    Yes ;)

  • How did you get in the photography industry?

    When I studied photo-design in Munich in 2007, one good friend of mine and photographer told me to try myself as wedding photographer. At that time, I have already photographed several weddings.

  • What are the most important components of a good photo in your opinion?

    It's the specific view of the photographer, how he transfers the feelings and emotions.

  • Do you love traveling?

    Yes, I do. Beside the wedding photography I also specified in the art photography. For those images I mostly travel and look for special moments and bizarre scenes. You can see my works here: www.juliasmirnova.com/

  • What do you like most about your profession?

    I like the creative aspect, the independence.
    I like to work and getting to know new people.

  • What do you like least about your profession?

    The heavy equipment ;)

  • What will be the future of photography?

    I think, the presentation will get more interactive.
    The emotional aspect of photography will be always very important.
    The photographic language will be more and more important.
    The photography will get more and more individualistic.

  • What is special in the photography genre you specialise at?

    The photographer has to be prepared for any situation, and have to react very fast: you cat't repeat most of the moments.

  • How do you handle criticism?

    If it is a healthy criticism, then I think about the critics.

  • Are there any trends in photography?

    Individualism is getting more and more important. (Some particular photographer with his own style).

  • What should be the criteria for a customer to choose a photographer?

    First, it is the portfolio of the photographer.
    The couple has to like the images and the style. Second is the personal aspect, when the couple meet the photographer.

  • What things are to be avoided when shooting?

    To talk on the phone with other clients.

  • What details that usually pass unnoticed can a photographer notice?

    Moments and details

  • What influences the value of a photo? What are its elements?

    it's the emotional aspect, again ;)

  • What person can be the symbol of the 21st century in your opinion?

    I think, those are happenings and not particular person

  • Who do you want to take photos of?

    interesting people with character

  • Do you have any professional taboos?

    In wedding photography: don't talk on the phone with other people/clients; don't drink (max. one prosecco or wine)

  • Who would you like to shoot with?

    I prefer to shoot alone, or to work with someone whom I know.

  • What do you worry about, and why?

    I think sometimes about the mankind in general and where it will be in some years.

  • What is the most impressive moment in your life?

    There are many.
    For example when I got the Munich Photography Award in 2013.

  • If you were a cartoon, book or movie character, who would you be and why?

    I like the squirrel in Ace Age ;)

  • Who inspires you in your life and why?

    The most inspirations I get from the world around me and everyday things.

  • How do you define success? How do you measure it?

    For me success is when I'm recognized in my work, and when I reach y goals. When I'm satisfied with myself.

  • Would you rather be liked or respected?

    The people who know me longer – both.
